Garden State

Let me say to anyone who reads this blog, that I saw the best movie that I have seen in a while tonight. Garden State completly hit home with me. The whole point of the movie was about being real, and honest and exactly who you are, as ugly as that is. This is when you are at your best. Just felt a need to encourage anyone and everyone to see this movie. It really hit home for me.

I watched Garden State tonight, and i also liked it. One of the things I really liked about it was the fact that he couldn't experience the "real" feelings. the "real" him while he was on his meds. he tells his dad/psychiatrist that he was so numb to everything and he (the dad) had to be OK with letting him FEEL, even if that means hurting. that takes guts. maybe not for someone like myself who has never been on meds, but for someone like Large, who has a world completly constructed on the idea that he NEEDS/MUST HAVE the meds. He needed to get off them in order to experience his life abundantly. what type of "meds" are we/am i on that hinder me from experienceing life abundantly like jesus promised we would in john 10:10? I loved the scene when he and the girl were in the bathtub and he says something about feelings being so real or alive for th very first time. that made me stoked for him. the soundtrack was really good too. you gotta love The Postal Service, especially acoustic remixes. (and by "gotta", i mean "should".)

oh yeah, and i forgot to say that i think clinical ADD is a poor excuse for many things, none the which are a lack of self-control, poor child-rearing, and other modern excuses for poor performance. MOST people, including an increasing number of elementary students are being put on meds, that are hindering their complete evelopment and setting them up for a life full of issues. wow, that was a bitter tangent. supposedly the creator of riddalin (sp?) was a christian who said his life's calling was to create a drug, using the talents God gave him to help others. go figure. this will probably cause lots of people to be upset, but i'm tired of seeing kids, especially boys controlled by a drug in the classroom and at home so the parents and teachers can have an easier life. they are boys just being boys for crying out loud! do away with the desk and go outside to learn! dads, get off your duff and go hiking with your son! wow. this gets me fired up. i'm done.
